The Islington Tribune continued its excellent coverage of the controversy surrounding Finsbury Health Centre with this article by Tom Foot yesterday. It documents complaints from patients that their physiotherapy appointments are being moved to the Northern Health Centre, over three miles and two buses away.
Despite reassurance to doctors that only those fit enough to make the journey are being considered for the moved appointments, our campaign has heard from two patients for whom the journey would require an ambulance or taxi. One 87-year-old wheelchair user cancelled her physiotherapy altogether because she felt unable to make the journey. Most patients we have heard from about this were able to keep their physio appointments at FHC after they insisted on staying. If you have been affected by this please also complain to PALS and let us know.
Although the PCT claims that these moves are temporary, there have been reports that one physiotherapist has been permanently moved, and some admin staff have been told that they will be permanently moved in October of this year! A podiatry patient who normally goes to Finsbury Health Centre has had her podiatry moved to St Lukes’, even though she lives closer to FHC.
